Story Continues A new study from Vanderbilt University shows that children born with a high IQ in early and mid-life have greater economic social well being as adults.
"If we really want to know the meaning of life, one thing we should not do is give these kids the benefit of doubt as they get older," said Vanderbilt economist Michael D. Jensen, lead author of the study, which was published today (Dec. 4) in the Proceedings of National Academy Sciences. "If we really want to know if there's a 'golden mean,' we need to look at the life paths of early-life-IQ children. We found that in many cases, the children who show greatest IQ gains tend to have the lowest income and family instability. What is especially impressive, I would argue, is that the results hold on those who were born into high IQ families and with levels of educational attainment."
The team, which also included Vanderbilt University professor Peter B. Gray, used data from the 1970s to examine economic well-being of young adults born with IQ scores above 105. They compared those at the 85th percentile in IQ with those at the 99th - 99.8th percentiles in IQ. The latter were

The companies are scheduled to begin trial for their alleged anticompetitive behavior early next year.

Rosen of the University Florida said companies' decision to pursue a price hike may have been a "smart bet" based on the amount of time it took for the lower prices to take effect.

Rosen said that in his experience, only a minority of cases will ever have the chance to go court and that if the patent lasts long enough, it can be hard to prove antitrust violations by the drug companies.
"I've been in these cases myself, and I don't think anybody was happy at the conclusion," he said.
